The optional half of a morris hey before Cross-Caper is not danced, and the optional snake is replaced by a single foot up.
Side Step differs from JG as follows:
- 8 right, 4 left, 4 right and 8 left, rather than 4 right, 4 left repeated three times.
Unlike the closed side step in Abraham Brown, the side step in Princes Royal is open with the foot described as "thrust sideways".
Cross-Caper is a corner movement and differs from JG as follows:
- all three corners cross, rather than the middle couple dancing the basic step.
- corners cross and stick, rather than cross and cross back
- the caper itself is interpreted from "hops forward with one foot, then touches the ground lightly with the toe (and then the heel), of the other foot, and jump to the corner with both feet" to, jump onto one foot|bounce the toe of the other foot|and then the heel|from one foot jump to two feet. The bounce encourages a high knee similar to the single step.
